Description:This rock consists of paler granite and darker, banded gneiss. Granite forms from molten magma that solidified slowly, deep within the Earth's crust. Gneiss is a metamorphic rock formed by the action of heat and pressure on a previous ingneous or sedimentary rock, but without complete melting.
Representing:Precambrian basement rock of the Canadian Shield, older than 1 billion years.
